Captain of the sailboat Aurora Artika in the Westfjords of Iceland, Vidar Kirstinsson takes skiers and snowboarders to mountains that are only accessible by boat. Whether it is on the sea or in the mountains, Vidar relies on his gear to withstand the elements to do his job and when necessary, simple repairs to stay dry.

Member of the Crested Butte Ski Patrol, Ellie Atkins spends her entire winter on the mountain and in her outerwear. Her days start early and consist of everything from rope work to throwing charges to keep the mountain safe in ever changing conditions. Wear and tear on gear is expected, so Ellie and the rest of the patrol depend on repair (quick duct tape jobs and long-term solutions) to keep them on the mountain.

They start them young in mountain towns. Mac Anderson is three years old and is already linking turns on a snowboard. You can spot him on the mountain in his red Patagonia jacket that has been passed around the Anderson family for 13 years now. With plenty of years left in the coat, you know it'll be given to the next in line when Mac grows out of the coat and into the bonafide ripper he's destined to become.
